About this hotel

The Terraces Hotel is ideally located in the central North Island overlooking beautiful Lake Taupo and beyond to the surrounding mountains. This beautifully restored 20 room hotel combines colonial charm with contemporary style and offers it’s guests relaxed friendly service. The Hotel is steeped in local history and it's walls are adorned with photos reflecting this. First established in 1889, the name 'Terraces' refers to the black silica terraces of cascading therapeutic mineral water that once surrounded the natural thermal valley over which the rear of the hotel looks. Although the black silica terraces no longer exist, the Terraces Hotel carries on the tradition offering its guests therapeutic pampering in association with the adjacent Taupo Hot Springs Spa. Guests receive concession rates into the hot springs on arrival. The Terraces Hotel is a stunning venue for weddings, conferences, product launches and functions.

The Terraces Hotel is located on the Napier Taupo Highway approximately 1km from the lake front. It is roughly 6km to the Taupo airport and a 5 minute drive to town. We are a 3.5 hours from Auckland, 5 hours from Wellington and 1.5 hours to Napier. The majority of Taupo's main attractions are within a 15 min drive from us.

The Rooms

The Terraces Hotel offers boutique style accommodation consisting of 2 Lake View Suites and 18 Thermal or Lake View hotel rooms. Rooms all have ensuite shower and toilet, Sky T.V, tea and coffee making facilities and are thermally heated. The majority of the 20 rooms have King sized beds and balcony access, allowing guests stunning views of either the Lake or the surrounding Thermal Valley. Laundry and dry-cleaning services are available on request as is our internet service. There is plenty of complimentry parking in front of the hotel.

The Terraces Restaurant and Bar caters to many palettes, and all occasions. A tempting menu comprising of gourmet wood fired pizzas, char-grilled dishes and a specially selected wine list makes this the perfect place to relax. The Terraces Restaurant and Bar offers open fires in winter, and outdoor balconies in summer where you can dine in style whilst enjoying one of the most spectacular views in Taupo. How to find us

FROM NORTH (Auckland): Coming into Taupo on State Highway One (SH1), cross over the control gate bridge, past Woolworths Supermarket on your left and go straight ahead at the roundabout onto Tongariro Street. Go through the traffic lights and carry on into Lake Terrace. Continue along Lake Terrace for approximately 5 kilometres. Turn left onto the Napier Taupo Highway (SH5) and carry on for approximately 1 kilometre. You will find us on the left of the Napier Taupo Highway adjacent to Taupo DeBretts Spa Resort. FROM SOUTH (Wellington): Entering Taupo on State Highway One (SH1), continue along Lake Terrace for approximately 2.5 kilometres. Turn right onto the Napier Taupo Highway (SH5) and carry on for approximately 1 kilometre. You will find us on the left of the Napier Taupo Highway adjacent to Taupo DeBretts Spa Resort.

Bookings cancelled less than 48 hours prior to arrival will incur a cancellation charge of one full nights accommodation.
